What Size Are Petite Glasses?
We all have unique size needs, but it helps to know what ballpark you might be in.
Don’t know how to read glasses sizes? Find out here.
Lens Width
Lens width 45 to 50 is petite in most frame shapes.
However, round frames are an exception. That’s because round frames have relatively narrow lenses and wide bridges. Lens width 43 to 48 is petite in round frames.
Bridge Width
Like lens width, bridge width is different for round frame shapes versus other shapes. Since the round lenses are narrower, the space between them is wider. Most likely, your bridge measurement for round frames will be 2 or 3 mm larger than it is on other frame shapes.
Temple Length
The temples on petite frames are shorter than on average sized frames, allowing for a more secure fit. They are also generally longer than the temples on children’s frames. That’s good because kid’s glasses with too-short temples can cause pain behind the ears.
Lens Height
The height of your lens should be proportionate to the length of your face. Frames that are too short on a long face will make it appear overlong. Likewise, too-tall frames on a short face will make it appear swallowed up by the frames.
- If your face is long and thin, go for frames with more height. Try square or round frames.
- If your face is short and wide, go for frames with less height. Try rectangular or oval frames.
Total Width
The total width of the frame front is not a traditional part of glasses measurements. However, as more people are buying online, many sellers are beginning to include this measurement.
It’s very useful because the total width should be about equal to or slightly wider (up to 5 mm wider) than the total width of your face at its widest point.

I’m glad you’ve found us now! Thank you for appreciating the frames. Demi-lune petite frames is an interesting idea. I always love hearing what shoppers would like to see in the store. Thank you for taking the time!
I wish I had know about you a long time ago! Your frames are beautiful. Would you consider a “demi-lune” or half-frame (lower) in a petite size for those of us who need reading glasses but would like to be able to look above them to see distance? I have seen some on line, but they are still sized too large. Thank you!
Hi Lori,
Thanks for sharing your size!
It’s true there are no 125 temples at time of this writing. However, if your current pair is 49-16-125 and they are too large, a frame with a smaller total width would likely make for a snugger fit. So, you might be able to wear a slightly longer (130-133) temple on a frame with a smaller total width.
I recommend trying the Joelee or Mini Kara frames. You might also consider the Kimberly and Julie.
Thank you,
My current glasses are 49-16-125 and they still are a little big. I noticed you don’t have any 125s.
Hi Gail, Thanks so much for your message! Glad you like the Joelee :)
It’s true that the color selection for that frame is limited at this time. There are 3 other colors for that style available on Pre-order (no burgundy, I’m afraid).
Joelee colors:
Joelee Burnt Caramel
Joelee Rose Gold
Joelee Dark Teal Green
How Pre-orders work
Thanks for letting me know burgundy would be of interest!
Hello, thank you for offering petite frames! I love the Joelee in XS petite, but only licorice is available. Do you plan to add a burgundy or similar shade any time soon?
Great suggestions! Thank you. I hope to release some new Kara colors in about 6 months (available to pre-order in about 2 months). Thank you for sharing those color requests.
I’d love to see the Kara come in cobalt blue and/or hunter green. I have Kara glasses in red and they’re so striking! I’d venture to guess they’d look equally as fabulous in blue or green.
Detailed info was informative and very much appreciated.
Appreciated the information. It was very helpful!
